Purpose of Ontario Works

  • recognize individual responsibility and promote self reliance through employment
  • provide temporary financial assistance to those most in need while they meet obligations to become and stay employed
  • effectively service people needing assistance and be accountable to the taxpayers

Some Employment Supports provided by Ontario Works Dufferin

Basic Education/Literacy Testing, Job Specific Skills Training, Supports to Employment Program (STEP), Community Placements, Employment Placements, Family Support Worker

Applying for Ontario Works:

  • Application for OW is initiated through a telephone interview
  • Call 519-941-6991 and choose option #1 (Dufferin residents only)
  • Initial telephone interview:  you will be provided with information about the program, and you will be asked for information about your financial and employment situation

If you qualify for assistance you will be given a time and date for an in-office interview.  At that time you will be required to complete and sign a detailed application form to verify the information provided during the telephone interview.
